October Recap! Germany, Anniversary, FurFright, Dancing!

Allrighty then! Lots has happened over the past couple weeks, so I'm gonna take a stab at writing a quick recap over some major events!

My trip to Germany was just like what many would expect a business trip to be - most of it just at the office or at the hotel. So I didn't get much time to enjoy Frankfurt, sadly. But at least I got to fly business class, which was pretty neat! And big thanks to BBF and Leowi for coming down all the way from Cologne and showing me a good time at the XXXXXL Eingang Waldgeist, where the servings here put American sized portions to shame! I got the schnitzel, but when I saw the burger get served to an adjacent table, I just *had* to take a picture. The three of us looked at it and equated the monster to 20 Big Macs.

An unfortunate part about the trip is that it ran over my 5-year anniversary with my partner Jimmy Wolf. But as soon as I'd gotten home from my long flight back, Jimmy had surprised me by hopping in costume holding a framed picture which he had commissioned by our good friend and talented artist Spunky. Funny thing is that I'd asked Spunky to draw up an anniversary gift for me to give to Jimmy as well! I'm sure she had quite the chuckle out of it - Jimmy Wolf tells more about it in his post. Here are the pictures we got each other!

The one that I got Jimmy:

The one that Jimmy got me - lol thanks love - I know I eat everything in sight ;)

However, what Jimmy didn't know was that the gift from Spunky was really a plan-b type of gift. My original gift idea was one I'd had for a while, since our first anniversary, actually. I'd had this little 5x7 sketchbook with about 25-ish pages in it, and I'd filled it in with sketches of memories throughout the years. My original intent was to have fully colored pictures on each of the pages, along with notes to tell a story with each picture. Though it was unfinished in my eyes, many encouraged me to give the gift anyway - and as everyone had told me would happen, Jimmy loved the gift when I gave it to him during our celebratory dinner. I hope to complete it, though - especially when things aren't in super-crunch mode with work and dance and such. Love you very much hun!

Tzup, Nbowa, and Harley visited just after this and just before FurFright - was a ton of fun being a host for you guys! I'm glad that you all had a lot of fun, and next time I hope to be able to be more present as a host to really show you all a good time! ^^

Furfright was a blast as always! Belic, K'gra and crew put on a great show once again, and I had a great time hanging out with everybody, both old and new friends! Sad to hear that the Red Bandits' winning streak is over - seems we had a case of the Yankees. An all-star team can't win every year ;) And though it's been sighted in other areas of the country for a couple years now, it seems that this was the first time that the doppleganger JD really hit the audiences well at FurFright! All in all, it was a very fun con, and I was glad to enjoy the vacation with plenty of great friends!

Tux (who sadly didn't get any floor time at FurFright) managed to get some mileage in the ballroom scene once again at a couple halloween dance parties here and there. Those that knew me were super excited to see the costume, and I got plenty of "OMG can I take a picture with you???" requests. Love it!

This girl was adorable!

Hopefully that catches things up pretty well! Until next time!

Hey! I'm about a month late for EF, but I'm going to Germany next week!

Was just approached by my manager to ask if I was interested and available to support a project in Germany next week, leaving *this* Saturday, returning the following Saturday. Talk about short notice!

Obviously I accepted the opportunity to travel out to those whereabouts on the company's dime. And while I'll be likely busy throughout the work week, I definitely want to get an opportunity to go places or to see people that are out there! How does that sound?

I may have missed out on Oktoberfest, but I hope to still be able to enjoy German sausages and beer as if it were!

Wow! Looks like AC was a huge blast - tons of things I wish I could've been a part of and plenty of people I wish I could've seen. But my vacation plans took me south to Washington D.C. for Independence Day Ball, a Latin and ballroom dance camp/convention, so I was still kicking it up at a con!

My favorite part, by far, was the performance group that got together, learned and practiced choreography in less than 5 hours, to be performed Friday night at the social dance the camp was holding. I'm glad to say that I'm front and center and enjoyed milking the dark tone of the piece:

<lj-embed id="49" />

On top of that, there was plenty of panels (aka master workshops) from world-class professional dancers from around the world, and I learned a lot that'll hopefully improve my dancing for when I hop back into competition season this fall. And there were a TON of dance folks I haven't seen in a while, and enjoyed partying it up practically every night. So it was very much like a con experience, just a totally different circle.

Having said all that, those that spoke to me while I was down there know that I kept wishing I was having a blast with you all in Pittsburgh, but I'm sure if I was at AC, I would've spent a good portion of time wishing I was down at the ballroom con. Can't be in two places at once, unfortunately!

But speaking of cons, Megaplex is coming up, and I'm gonna be going as it falls on my birthday! Who will I see down in Florida in a few weekends? :)

P.S. I attended IDB last year and did the performance group back then as well. Here's a clip from that performance:

<lj-embed id="50" />

There's a few more items on the list, but I feel like I can take on more now that I've taken care of some of the final ones. In order to get in the commission queue, please send me an email at jd.puppy[at]yahoo.com detailing what type of commission you would like and any descriptions or references if you have them! Payment will be taken via paypal after an initial sketch is drawn and agreed upon.

Here are the base prices* for single-character commissions (printing and shipping included):

Sketch: $10
(Traditional or Digital)
Want something done quick and cheap? Traditional sketches consist of a quick black or blue sketch pencil work done on 8.5" x 11" paper. Digital works are rough sketches done in Photoshop, and it's already on my computer so I can get it back to ya even more quickly!

Ink: $20
(Traditional or Digital)
Maybe you're more interested in something a little more refined than a sketch... So why not an inked commission? Traditional works are free of sketch lines and are finished in black ink on 8.5" x 11" paper. Digital works are a cleaner lineart tailored in Photoshop, and perfect for a followup coloring by the artist of your choice!

Color: $30
(Traditional or Digital)
Now, here's the good stuff! Get a full colored picture of your character with this commission, pose of your choice if you want it, too! Traditional works will be in colored pencil, marker, or a combination of the two (depending on the availability of colors/supplies). Digital works are fully colored and shaded in Photoshop with no background or a simple background.

Regular Conbadge: $20
(Traditional or Digital)
These badges are your regular, 3" x 4" badges (horizontal only, for now), which include a colored depiction of your character's headshot and name. Comes with horizontal badge holder and lanyard!

Shaped Conbadge: $25
(Traditional or Digital)
These badges are of colored headshots or bustshots - drawn, laminated and cut to your specifications! You even get your name on it!
As I mentioned earlier, I was taking the CPA (certified public accountant) exams, the last one being right before I flew out for FC. So if you've been wondering why I have been virtually absent online for a great portion of the past few months, that's why. Well, I got the last score I was waiting on earlier this week, and received fantastic news - I passed all four parts of the CPA exam on the first try! =D

The pass mark is 75 or above out of 99, and my average over the four tests was above 90, so I not only passed, I knocked these things out of the park! One of the scores was a 98 - dunno how the heck that happened!

It's pretty significant for a number of reasons - first, I don't have to worry about studying anymore, and all I've got left to get my certification is to get the experience requirement down. The pass rate for passing all four parts on the first try is pretty slim - around 10% - since usually people fail one or two and have to retake them (retake pass rates are much higher, though). Second, I need it in order to get promoted. Third, I get a bonus for completing within my first year of working with PricewaterhouseCoopers - so I'll be getting a bit of extra money to enjoy the finer things as a reward for my hard work come July (June 30 is our year end for annual review)!

So I'm very excited about this, thanks to all who have given their support. I have been pretty occupied with work, dance, and exercise to celebrate properly as of late - but I'll be sure to set aside some time to truly appreciate my accomplishment!

Last month, I'd attended the Manhattan Amateur Classic in NYC and earlier this month, I had participated in the Clover Star Classic in Philadelphia. Just this past weekend, I competed at Binghamton University for their collegiate ballroom competition!

Funny thing is that at each competition, I'd competed with an almost *completely different* set of partners each time. Not because I didn't like any of the previous partners however - I go out 'cuz I want to dance, and if my usual partners can't make it, I still would want to find someone to dance with. It ends up working out for everyone because I'd be dancing with a girl who would want to dance as well, but otherwise not be dancing if I didn't step up to the plate.

Despite shuffling partners and minimal practice, this managed to happen...

Here's a snippet of the day...
Hey everyone! I'm finally opening up for artwork commissions again! In order to get in the commission queue, please send me an email at jd.puppy@yahoo.com detailing what type of commission you would like and any descriptions or references if you have them! Payment will be taken via paypal after an initial sketch is drawn and agreed upon. Tips (both feedback and extra moneys) welcome! =)

Here are the base prices single-character commissions (printing and shipping included):

Sketch: $10
(Traditional or Digital)
Want something done quick and cheap? Traditional sketches consist of a quick black or blue sketch pencil work done on 8.5" x 11" paper. Digital works are a cleaner lineart tailored in Photoshop, and perfect for a followup coloring by the artist of your choice!

Color: $30
(Traditional or Digital)
Now, here's the good stuff!
This has been an accurate summary of what's eaten up my time over the past few months:

+ =

For those that don't know, I graduated from NYU back in May with a dual degree in Accounting and Finance, and got lucky with the decision of which industry to pursue. Thanks to the recruiting process at the undergraduate business school, I landed a job with PricewaterhouseCoopers after they had begun a relationship with me back in '06. The firm want the new associates to get certified and supply the (expensive) study materials those that pursue the credential. (I also need it to get promoted in a couple years.)

I *just* finished the last of the four exams. I've heard back from two of them - pass score is 75 out of a exam-difficulty-curved 99, and I nailed a 93 on the first one I took (BEC) and a 98 on the second (REG), and am waiting to hear back for FARE and Audit. REG's score was a pleasant surprise - I left that exam feeling like crap and ready to prepare my reapplication forms. But when I checked the scores while at work a few weeks back before the holidays, I couldn't focus on my work because I was so surprised and happy. Here's to hoping I encounter just as good news waiting to hear back from these two exams!

SO - I can't wait to get back to real life - get back to arting, performing, fitness - and have studying be cut out of my schedule! (Granted, I've kept up with ballroom, which has been a blast, too, btw - much to be told in that arena. Post pending!) But first, there's this thing I gotta go to in California... =)

Was NOT a breeze... XP
Attended MFF, helped teach a fursuit dance panel last-minute, learned a few moves from Jibba, didn't wanna give up an endurance battle, sweated through a blue lanyard that bled, and somehow knocked people out of a hold 'em table in the den while in fursuit.
Got in the fursuit calendar with the help of a friend.

December
Got together with friends for an early Christmas party, and had more drinking fun.
Learned that I not only passed my second exam, but smashed it out of the park 98/99!
Spending the holidays prepping for my final two exams, both in January.

In 6 hours, I'm flying down to Atlanta, GA, for a week-long training for work at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and then I'll be back up in NYC to work from HQ, where I'll be working full time for who knows how long... (but, I'm *very* excited to be working for PwC after interning with them last summer!)

Alas... my extreme fun-filled summer has officially come to a close. But it's been intense and amazing and I don't think I could've wished for anything better - I visited awesome places, hung out with great old friends and met some fantastic new ones, and had volumes' worth of experiences and memories (well... some of them can't qualify as memories per se :D)!

Now it's time for this puppy to take his first steps into becoming a big important business-dog!

"Hmmm... Dom Perignon? Sure, put it on my corporate tab!"

:3

Oh wait... It's already Friday... I'm leaving for Europe later today! Holy crap time flies!

Pretty much the culmination of everything I had worked my butt off for while going to college - promising myself a great senior year and an amazing summer following graduation. With cap & gown out of the way only three months ago, things went full-steam ahead with enjoying my true free time, the last stretch of that kind I'll get for a while. And Europe is the LAST STOP on this incredible journey =D

Plans: A little bit of Paris, a little bit of Amsterdam, and whole lotta Eurofurence!

I'll be at EF! First time! WOOT! And WITHOUT a phone!!! Jimmy Wolf will be my phone, and if Cake's gracious enough to lend me his spare, all will be well, though I don't intend on using it a lot, since things cost mad monies when you change dollars to euros these days ;)

Roomin' with jimwolf24 and kodi_pup. I guess it's shout out time - Who's going?!?!?

Also - if you wanted to commission me at EF, I'll actually be behind an artist's alley table for once! I'm sharing with the awesome huskytre and there will be much craziness going on in our little art corner! =D

Be on the lookout for me in these two critters, the loveable JD Puppy, and the mysterious Tux (the Tuxedo Cat):

That's right... It was a really fun event, and the crowd couldn't get enough of us!
Orlando was a ton of fun - got to see Media, Herbie, Simba, KP, Kio, Kofu, Raspberry, Zell, Tao, Moonstalker, Cel, Trigger, Marc, Tre, Chorca, Coseiko, and anyone I missed. Great sharin' meals, park time, and everything with all of you! =)

It was a good combination of family time and friends time, and though myself and the family didn't do much in terms of shows or rides despite the super-expensive tickets, it was still good family time. Special thanks to Tilt for making our breakfast at the Poly incredibly special! And for hangin' with friends - thanks to all who had wheels and drove me around! And high-fives are awesome, and if done properly, irresistible! Buuut I didn't take as many pictures as I thought, so unfortunately I don't have much to share >.<

My birthday was a lot of fun too - as I'd posted, there was a nice kareoke night with much singing and drinking. And then my birthday pool party with ballroom friends which was a BLAST! I got a couple bottles of nice wine as gifts, as well as some gag gifts like a fetchball and cat tail ;P There was much swimming, eating, video games, and board games, so it was a successful day overall!

Pictures here

FA:U recap to come, and I'm RIGHT NOW in Columbus, OH, where Theome has been an awesome host and local tour guide taking me to cool places (mainly to eat).
