Licensing Show 2008 in NYC & More
So this past Tuesday-Thursday, I got to perform as Felix the Cat at the Licensing Show at the Javits Center in New York City. I'd done the Licensing Show in 05 and 06, missing last year due to a schedule conflict. But it was great to be back, and I had a blast as the cartoon star as usual!

In the meantime, since I've gotten back from my trip along the West Coast, one of my dance partners and myself have been hauling ass to get ready for a ballroom competition tomorrow, the NJ DanceSport Classic - Summer Sizzler, starting just over 9 hours from now! Hopefully I can get some good video from the competition - more to come in 24 hours!

"Felix the Cat first hit the screen on November 9, 1919, in Feline Follies. The mischievous feline—created by Otto Messmer for the Pat Sullivan studio—rocketed to fame, holding a spot as the world's most popular cartoon character until the advent of Mickey Mouse."

From The Classic Felix the Cat Page

He was most known for the 50's cartoon series, but gotta pay homage to the days when the world was only black and white!

Coolness. And the suit actually looks like a darn good rendition of him, too. Impressive, considering how abstractly toony he is.

And good luck in the dance competition or break a leg, whichever wish is traditionally appropriate in that arena. :)

The costume was really manageable given the big-head, round-body syndrome that suits of this variety face. It was definitely fun not only to look like the toon, but to constantly bounce around like one - you know, like how they used to do in the silent movie cartoons with the piano guy playing on the side.

(And I think the appropriate one is "good luck" because it's a sport in competition. "Break a leg" would work if it were a performance instead. :D )

*chuckles* despite how big they are, and actually because of that, it's tough to gauge whether they're looking at the camera properly >.

OMG! I still ADORE Felix the Cat! Did you get any swag/toys? Or do I have more buttons and such than you?

I didn't grab much this year. I'd performed as Felix in 05 and 06, and those were the years I snagged what I could from the booth, which still wasn't much. The owners of the property remembered me well and were happy to see me back!

I am surprised that is a marketable character still. Sounds like a great convention to work.

I'm surprised, too! But Felix apparently still has a lot of vitality, albeit under the radar. Comic strips and cartoons being licensed out, particularly overseas, too. I saw *plenty* of people talking with the representatives at the booth. So the Felix brand is very much vibrant still nowadays!

Hmmm.... Were you felix the cat in 2005? I was there in 2005, playing Dooley from Dooley and pals working for TMO. I don't think I met ya till a year or two later though.
Ah, the good old days of TMO

Yup, I was Felix in 05. We didn't know each other though until we met in Florida this past August. So we probably did cross paths, and just didn't know it! =)
