October Recap! Germany, Anniversary, FurFright, Dancing! [01 Nov 2009|09:19pm]
Allrighty then! Lots has happened over the past couple weeks, so I'm gonna take a stab at writing a quick recap over some major events!

My trip to Germany was just like what many would expect a business trip to be - most of it just at the office or at the hotel. So I didn't get much time to enjoy Frankfurt, sadly. But at least I got to fly business class, which was pretty neat! And big thanks to BBF and Leowi for coming down all the way from Cologne and showing me a good time at the XXXXXL Eingang Waldgeist, where the servings here put American sized portions to shame! I got the schnitzel, but when I saw the burger get served to an adjacent table, I just *had* to take a picture. The three of us looked at it and equated the monster to 20 Big Macs.

An unfortunate part about the trip is that it ran over my 5-year anniversary with my partner Jimmy Wolf. But as soon as I'd gotten home from my long flight back, Jimmy had surprised me by hopping in costume holding a framed picture which he had commissioned by our good friend and talented artist Spunky. Funny thing is that I'd asked Spunky to draw up an anniversary gift for me to give to Jimmy as well! I'm sure she had quite the chuckle out of it - Jimmy Wolf tells more about it in his post. Here are the pictures we got each other!

The one that I got Jimmy:

The one that Jimmy got me - lol thanks love - I know I eat everything in sight ;)

However, what Jimmy didn't know was that the gift from Spunky was really a plan-b type of gift. My original gift idea was one I'd had for a while, since our first anniversary, actually. I'd had this little 5x7 sketchbook with about 25-ish pages in it, and I'd filled it in with sketches of memories throughout the years. My original intent was to have fully colored pictures on each of the pages, along with notes to tell a story with each picture. Though it was unfinished in my eyes, many encouraged me to give the gift anyway - and as everyone had told me would happen, Jimmy loved the gift when I gave it to him during our celebratory dinner. I hope to complete it, though - especially when things aren't in super-crunch mode with work and dance and such. Love you very much hun!

Tzup, Nbowa, and Harley visited just after this and just before FurFright - was a ton of fun being a host for you guys! I'm glad that you all had a lot of fun, and next time I hope to be able to be more present as a host to really show you all a good time! ^^

Furfright was a blast as always! Belic, K'gra and crew put on a great show once again, and I had a great time hanging out with everybody, both old and new friends! Sad to hear that the Red Bandits' winning streak is over - seems we had a case of the Yankees. An all-star team can't win every year ;) And though it's been sighted in other areas of the country for a couple years now, it seems that this was the first time that the doppleganger JD really hit the audiences well at FurFright! All in all, it was a very fun con, and I was glad to enjoy the vacation with plenty of great friends!

Tux (who sadly didn't get any floor time at FurFright) managed to get some mileage in the ballroom scene once again at a couple halloween dance parties here and there. Those that knew me were super excited to see the costume, and I got plenty of "OMG can I take a picture with you???" requests. Love it!

This girl was adorable!

Hopefully that catches things up pretty well! Until next time!

I'm going to Germany! [29 Sep 2009|10:53pm]
Hey! I'm about a month late for EF, but I'm going to Germany next week!

Was just approached by my manager to ask if I was interested and available to support a project in Germany next week, leaving *this* Saturday, returning the following Saturday. Talk about short notice!

Obviously I accepted the opportunity to travel out to those whereabouts on the company's dime. And while I'll be likely busy throughout the work week, I definitely want to get an opportunity to go places or to see people that are out there! How does that sound?

I may have missed out on Oktoberfest, but I hope to still be able to enjoy German sausages and beer as if it were!

Thinking about going to the furry cruise! [22 Aug 2009|12:14pm]

Saturday, December 5 - Thursday, December 10
6-day cruise in the Caribbean from Miami!

I've always been curious about this, and it seems like a lot of fun! Been wanting to go on a cruise too, and I definitely want to do it with some awesome people too!

Deposit deadline's coming up really soon, though - August 26 - so I have to act now if I want to get in on this. But I wanna know who else is going or might be interested in going so I know it'll be a good time! And I gotta make sure my passport's up to date too!

More details underneath the cut! )

Think I should go? Think YOU should go? Let me know if it'll be a good time! See the LJ community - http://community.livejournal.com/furrycruise/ - for more information!

Goin' down to Megaplex next weekend, and I wanna know who's gonna be there! Give me a shout-out!

And it's ultra-special 'cuz it's happening over my birthday! And I never thought that I'd have the birthday x Christmas problem...

Arrivin' Thursday - leavin' Monday. When're *YOU* going?!

What I did last weekend... [07 Jul 2009|08:20pm]
Wow! Looks like AC was a huge blast - tons of things I wish I could've been a part of and plenty of people I wish I could've seen. But my vacation plans took me south to Washington D.C. for Independence Day Ball, a Latin and ballroom dance camp/convention, so I was still kicking it up at a con!

My favorite part, by far, was the performance group that got together, learned and practiced choreography in less than 5 hours, to be performed Friday night at the social dance the camp was holding. I'm glad to say that I'm front and center and enjoyed milking the dark tone of the piece:

On top of that, there was plenty of panels (aka master workshops) from world-class professional dancers from around the world, and I learned a lot that'll hopefully improve my dancing for when I hop back into competition season this fall. And there were a TON of dance folks I haven't seen in a while, and enjoyed partying it up practically every night. So it was very much like a con experience, just a totally different circle.

Having said all that, those that spoke to me while I was down there know that I kept wishing I was having a blast with you all in Pittsburgh, but I'm sure if I was at AC, I would've spent a good portion of time wishing I was down at the ballroom con. Can't be in two places at once, unfortunately!

But speaking of cons, Megaplex is coming up, and I'm gonna be going as it falls on my birthday! Who will I see down in Florida in a few weekends? :)

P.S. I attended IDB last year and did the performance group back then as well. Here's a clip from that performance:

Not attending AC this year... [26 Jun 2009|05:56pm]
Just wasn't in the cards for me this year - the 4th of July generally isn't a good time for me - (I had something slotted in *even before* AC announced their dates last year). After weighing the options, I've gotta go with my original plans. I just wish I could do all the things I had wanted to do for next week!

Have fun at AC, everybody - I'll miss you all! Be extra bouncy for me!

Decision's in! And now another question... [09 Apr 2009|04:39pm]
It's decided - I'm goin' to Elliot's Spring Gathering! Got my flight, hotel, and registration all set! I'm super-psyched for some fun Go-Kart and Waterpark action!

Now for another question...

Who's going to this in Decmeber this year? I'd been curious about this ever since its inception, but was never a good time due to school and other commitments. Now this year it finally looks like a possibility!

For those who have gone, what did you like/not like about it? Is it worth the money? What can I expect? Are you comin' back? Let me in on the scoop!

Elliot's Spring Gathering - Who's Goin'? [25 Mar 2009|08:26pm]

Just booked my room for Elliot's Spring Gathering, which is happening May 29-31 in sunny Kissimee, Florida! Go-Karting (in fursuit please? :D), awesome food, and private waterpark craziness? I think it's a winning combination, don't you? =)

Who's going? =D

New Artwork and Opening for Commissions! [15 Mar 2009|10:44am]
Hey everyone! Just wanted to showcase some highlights from the most recent wave of art that's been churned out from me!

One of my first attempts with markers, a shaped badge that I gave Jimmy Wolf for Valentine's Day:

A couple character sheets for Devilwuff (of his alternate character, Angelwuff) and for Thumper:

And my half of a trade with the awesome Raccoon Drew!

AND since the FA commission info page is down, I ought to have these details in a few places. There's a few more items on the list, but I feel like I can take on more now that I've taken care of some of the final ones. In order to get in the commission queue, please send me an email at jd.puppy[at]yahoo.com detailing what type of commission you would like and any descriptions or references if you have them! Payment will be taken via paypal after an initial sketch is drawn and agreed upon.

JD Puppy, CPA [26 Feb 2009|01:28pm]
As I mentioned earlier, I was taking the CPA (certified public accountant) exams, the last one being right before I flew out for FC. So if you've been wondering why I have been virtually absent online for a great portion of the past few months, that's why. Well, I got the last score I was waiting on earlier this week, and received fantastic news - I passed all four parts of the CPA exam on the first try! =D

The pass mark is 75 or above out of 99, and my average over the four tests was above 90, so I not only passed, I knocked these things out of the park! One of the scores was a 98 - dunno how the heck that happened!

It's pretty significant for a number of reasons - first, I don't have to worry about studying anymore, and all I've got left to get my certification is to get the experience requirement down. The pass rate for passing all four parts on the first try is pretty slim - around 10% - since usually people fail one or two and have to retake them (retake pass rates are much higher, though). Second, I need it in order to get promoted. Third, I get a bonus for completing within my first year of working with PricewaterhouseCoopers - so I'll be getting a bit of extra money to enjoy the finer things as a reward for my hard work come July (June 30 is our year end for annual review)!

So I'm very excited about this, thanks to all who have given their support. I have been pretty occupied with work, dance, and exercise to celebrate properly as of late - but I'll be sure to set aside some time to truly appreciate my accomplishment!

Burning up the dance floor! [24 Feb 2009|01:00am]
Last month, I'd attended the Manhattan Amateur Classic in NYC and earlier this month, I had participated in the Clover Star Classic in Philadelphia. Just this past weekend, I competed at Binghamton University for their collegiate ballroom competition!

Funny thing is that at each competition, I'd competed with an almost *completely different* set of partners each time. Not because I didn't like any of the previous partners however - I go out 'cuz I want to dance, and if my usual partners can't make it, I still would want to find someone to dance with. It ends up working out for everyone because I'd be dancing with a girl who would want to dance as well, but otherwise not be dancing if I didn't step up to the plate.

Despite shuffling partners and minimal practice, this managed to happen...

Here's a snippet of the day... International Latin:

Decisions, decisions... [05 Feb 2009|03:56pm]
So I meant to make a few new changes for new year's, so I'm a month or so behind, and can use your help!

Poll #1344362 Decisions, decisions...
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 41

Last year, I saw my art style evolve a bit, though it's settled into an awkward combination of different types, which has ended up in some inconsistencies. I'm looking to stylize a bit in order to get more consistent results and to attract people who enjoy that kind of artwork... What style(s) should I look into and start improving my drawing technique in?

Last year, I set out to do some heavy weight training to fill out my clothing better and to gain a better physique. Because I started work and was focused on taking my professional exams, my focus on that had dwindled to near nothing. I want to get back to exercising in the gym and I want to choose what should be my aim for exercise and diet... What do you think should be my focus in workouts?

Last year, I sat in the artist's alley behind the table for the first time at a couple cons. While it took me away from all the craziness of suiting outside, I was able to bring home a pretty penny or two and get to know other artists. I also had a great time teaching dance panels - both of the Latin and Ballroom dances I do (like Salsa and Swing), as well as the Fursuit Dance panels with great people like Tek and Dex. At the same time, I've met a whole lot of new suiters on the floor and have a blast as always in costume... What should I do at conventions?

So according to my last post, I fell off the face of the earth... [21 Jan 2009|11:46am]
This has been an accurate summary of what's eaten up my time over the past few months:

+   =

For those that don't know, I graduated from NYU back in May with a dual degree in Accounting and Finance, and got lucky with the decision of which industry to pursue. Thanks to the recruiting process at the undergraduate business school, I landed a job with PricewaterhouseCoopers after they had begun a relationship with me back in '06. The firm want the new associates to get certified and supply the (expensive) study materials those that pursue the credential. (I also need it to get promoted in a couple years.)

I *just* finished the last of the four exams. I've heard back from two of them - pass score is 75 out of a exam-difficulty-curved 99, and I nailed a 93 on the first one I took (BEC) and a 98 on the second (REG), and am waiting to hear back for FARE and Audit. REG's score was a pleasant surprise - I left that exam feeling like crap and ready to prepare my reapplication forms. But when I checked the scores while at work a few weeks back before the holidays, I couldn't focus on my work because I was so surprised and happy. Here's to hoping I encounter just as good news waiting to hear back from these two exams!

SO - I can't wait to get back to real life - get back to arting, performing, fitness - and have studying be cut out of my schedule! (Granted, I've kept up with ballroom, which has been a blast, too, btw - much to be told in that arena. Post pending!) But first, there's this thing I gotta go to in California... =)

Statement of Activities for 2008... [31 Dec 2008|06:48pm]

January
Attended New Year's Day Ball and made an appearance in costume as JD!
Attended FC, was a gangsta and a samurai, and I jumped into a pool in fursuit.

February
Performed with the NYU Dance Team as the NYU Bobcat in my final basketball games that I had scheduled.
Brought Tux down to a ballroom competition in Philly to catch some special ballroom pics.

March
Got sick, more dancing, Super Smash Bros Brawl came out in the middle of midterm season, and went down to Baltimore for a spring break party.

April
Performed at NCA/NDA Nationals and took fourth out of the top five mascots who qualified through video submissions. Many say the game is fixed ;)

May
I graduated from NYU magna cum laude with a B.s. in Business Administration with a concentration in CPA Accounting and Finance.
I witnessed a proposal during my trip in California while visiting Roofus, Tsuyoto, Nekomon, and Furahi...

June
And I flew from Cali to Portland to visit Thumper, performed with Helping Pawz, and taught the Uprock.
I dressed up as Felix the Cat at the Licensing Show in NYC.
Theome visited, and we saw Richard Cheese in concert, attended Folsom East, and volunteered at an Autism Speaks event, with Theome hopping in Fooey as a guest performer
Attended AC, threw a surprise party for
Jimmy Wolf, somehow won the dance competition, and performed Thriller with Madius, Media, and NeoPanTyger.

July
Attended Independence Day Ball, and was in a performance where I sprained my ankle and could not dance or make an appearance as Tux like I planned.
I visited Orlando with family and hit up all of the Disney parks with them, as well as had fun times with friends.
Celebrated my 22nd birthday

August
Attended FAU, hung out with the bestest crew EVER, and Jimmy Wolf pulled revenge by throwing me a surprise for my birthday as well.
Visited Theome in Columbus, delivered a very special surprise, and had a ton of fun with the crew down there, including some nice shows and dinners, as well as some fun in the park in costume.
Attended EF, and hung out with some more awesome crews, and had a BLAST. Sat in artist's alley for the first time, had a standee decorating hte convention, almost chugged a full pitcher of beer, and was in the erotic fursuit dancing contest.

September
Started being a grown up and started my job at PricewaterhouseCoopers and fell off the face of the earth since I was seriously buckling down on my Certified Public Accounting exam studying.

October
Took my first of four CPA exams. Was a breeze.
Attended FurFright, was worth 8 points, taught dancing, and had an abso*muffle*lutely fun time judging the masquerade.

November
Learned I passed my first CPA exam 93/99 - no surprise.
Took my second of four CPA exams. Was NOT a breeze... XP
Attended MFF, helped teach a fursuit dance panel last-minute, learned a few moves from Jibba, didn't wanna give up an endurance battle, sweated through a blue lanyard that bled, and somehow knocked people out of a hold 'em table in the den while in fursuit.
Got in the fursuit calendar with the help of a friend.

December
Got together with friends for an early Christmas party, and had more drinking fun.
Learned that I not only passed my second exam, but smashed it out of the park 98/99!
Spending the holidays prepping for my final two exams, both in January.

Fine... [18 Sep 2008|08:44pm]

Gotta love the invisible mosquitoes that are currently feasting on my body. One had a snack on my cheek there earlier today...

• Take a picture of yourself right now.
• Don't change your clothes. Don't fix your hair.
• Post that picture with no editing.
• Post these instructions with your picture.

Wait... I have to be a Grown Up now?? [07 Sep 2008|11:51pm]
In 6 hours, I'm flying down to Atlanta, GA, for a week-long training for work at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and then I'll be back up in NYC to work from HQ, where I'll be working full time for who knows how long... (but, I'm *very* excited to be working for PwC after interning with them last summer!)

Alas... my extreme fun-filled summer has officially come to a close. But it's been intense and amazing and I don't think I could've wished for anything better - I visited awesome places, hung out with great old friends and met some fantastic new ones, and had volumes' worth of experiences and memories (well... some of them can't qualify as memories per se :D)!

Now it's time for this puppy to take his first steps into becoming a big important business-dog!

"Hmmm... Dom Perignon? Sure, put it on my corporate tab!"
