Guest of Honor at FurFright 2011! [07 Feb 2011|11:53pm]

It's with great excitement that I write to announce that I will be one of the Guests of Honor at FurFright 2011! It's a real privilege to be GoH at a convention as awesome as FurFright - Belic and his team put on a FANTASTIC show year over year. I'm definitely going to doing a ton at the convention art-, panel-, and event-wise so FurFright 2011 is going to be a blast! I hope that all my friends can come join me and celebrate at the convention!

Time to say goodbye... [19 Sep 2010|03:04am]
I know that a lot of people have been very supportive of Skroy's and my recent announcement of being together. It definitely seemed like a crazy match with awesome potential, and both of us were just as excited as everyone else, if not moreso, to be able to explore this opportunity.

Unfortunately, it seemed that the challenges of a long distance relationship were too difficult for everything to remain sustainable. When he and I decided to be together, we definitely aligned with what we were looking for in the relationship - someone to love and to be loved by, and someone to share happy experiences with as a team, to work with, bounce off of, and learn from each other. But the way each of us wanted to do that and what each of us perceived as priorities didn't coincide. In the face of the logistical difficulties (like distance and time), we needed to make a decision that would make us happiest in the end.

I'm at least glad to have had the opportunity to share times being close with you, as brief as our time together was - thanks for the magical memories. While we may not be mates, I still look forward to the times when we can be that team of performers out on the convention floor as well as when we can hang out and connect as the individuals beneath the fur.

Take care, Skroy - best of luck as you continue to grow into your own both inside and outside the fandom.

The Time of My Life [03 Aug 2010|01:06am]
So there has been a lot of hype over recent news that Skroy and I are now officially together. We're very excited about the new relationship and look forward to the places it will take us as we learn and grow together. In the middle of all the fanfare, however, I want to make sure to highlight and give extreme gratitude to my companion, Jimmy Wolf (jimwolf24).

He and I celebrated an absolutely amazing 5 and a half years together, and in that quarter of my life, shared many, many significant experiences. He has been an incredible source of support and happiness - Jimmy has helped me grow immensely as a person while I really come into my own as an adult. It all started on October 9, 2004... we'd met in person for the first time and I'd said that I would like to follow in his footsteps. He went above and beyond and helped me blaze my own path that has taken me to fantastic heights.

As time passed, we continued to give it our all to continue onward together, but understood that both of us still had plenty to explore about ourselves. Eventually, we decided together that the time had come to give ourselves the opportunity to gain those experiences and knowledge that we couldn't obtain as a couple. A mutual and amicable decision out of love for each other, we embrace the opportunities of enjoying the benefits of an alternate life and of course hope the best for each other and will be happy so long as the other is happy, just like usual.

Jimmy, thank you immensely for an unforgettable time as partners, for being that source of stability and support and for taking care of me. You deserve a ton of recognition for everything you've done for me. I would not be who I am today if it weren't for you - I wouldn't even be a part of this fantastic, crazy community and share all of the great friends we have together. You were an amazing companion with a genuine heart and you truly are a special person with whom I fully intend on remaining close as time goes on.

Transitioning into our new lives isn't going to be the easiest process, and everything will take a lot of getting used to. But we can cherish the memories that we do have together (and readers, you can reference Jimmy's journal for the surprise he gave me which does exactly this) and look forward to the memories we'll have in our new lives.

I love you, wuffie - you'll always be my first love.

Fandom's Favorite Fursuit Pursuit! [31 Jul 2010|10:42pm]
[EDIT] Ah! Didn't realize polls were closing tonight and not tomorrow! Well, polls closed with one vote separating me and my competitor. Congrats DiNGO! :) Looks like I have to wait another year for a chance at the title! Best of luck to the Sweet 16!

Well since Skroy has been making a ton of posts about it, I figure I ought to do so myself. Would love to see me and my folfsky progress through the brackets, so please vote for both of us! (I need it a heck of a lot more than he does o.o)

I graciously am grateful for all support! :)

Next Chapter [25 Jul 2010|08:30pm]
Just hours before my 24th birthday. Crazy how the time flies before I even know it, and how much has been accomplished and experienced in that time. There is plenty more coming my way, many have assured me, and thanks to everyone who has played a role in it, big or small. While there's a lot that I don't know yet, with the support of those around me, I'll prepare myself as best I can and I'm excited to charge into this next chapter of my life!

Guess it was -too- real! [01 Apr 2010|10:15pm]
Guess I'd like to say April Fool's regarding my last posts - I'm not quite in the market for commissioning a suit; however, a lot of the information was very helpful in case I do start considering, and I'm sure that some bystanders who happen to read through the comments will get some good nuggets of advice!

As for the other part of it, JD's sticking around for the long haul. But I *will* wear him until he falls apart. And I do have that spare fur which will eventually be en route to NYC - it's a close match. We'll see if I am still satisfied with it by the time it comes. But what is interesting is that I got a lot of positive feedback about adopting a new character, particularly one that deviates greatly from the bouncy pup. So as I like to say, there's a little bit of truth in every "just kidding" and the feedback might come in handy after all!

So Happy April Fool's Day everyone! I hope it was a good one!

Commissioning a suit? [Take 2] [01 Apr 2010|01:49pm]
EDIT: Sorry for the repost. Wanted to update the poll but no one could get access to it despite everything I tried to do... gotta post this again. People, feel free to re-post your comments, and I'll repost mine :)

Hey everyone!

Still in the middle of the craziness of the timeline from my last post, but plenty to catch up on as always! Lost my camera in Boston, so no dance footage to share from that weekend, but I'll be able to recover it when I return later this month as it's been picked up by the organizers of the tournament.

While I was in LA, I had the pleasure of doing some fur shopping (thanks Miles!), in the ever-elusive hunt for JD fur, which has been incredibly difficult for me to find. There was a close substitute that may work out, but I'll have to wait to see how well it works with the previous iterations of JD. The suits are getting old and have taken more than just your casual wear and tear, so to speak. I'm worried that the JD's would not last the year (the original one should've been retired LONG ago...).

Trouble is, I'm starting to find it harder and harder to find the time to get around to fursuit maintenance, let alone fursuit construction altogether! Here's where I want to feel out what the commission landscape is like - I've never commissioned a suit before, so I'd like to hear your recommendations. I've put together a quick list of fursuit makers that I know are out there, though I don't know all of them for sure. Pick out the ones you think would be good to look into!

Who should I commission?

Noble Productions
1(1.6%)
Arend Studios
5(8.2%)
Mixed Candy
2(3.3%)
Don't Hug Cacti
4(6.6%)
B3 Mascots
3(4.9%)
Kodi Made
3(4.9%)
Jill Costumes
3(4.9%)
White Wolf Studios
1(1.6%)
Paws Productions
0(0.0%)
Surf Cat Costumes
2(3.3%)
Media
2(3.3%)
Furr Happens
2(3.3%)
One Fur All
1(1.6%)
Critter Country
1(1.6%)
Azure Coyote Studio
0(0.0%)
Blue Nose Creations
0(0.0%)
Other (please leave comments with suggestions)
6(9.8%)

I'm also curious what to get for the commission:
1. I could commission to have JD made from another maker. And I'd probably want to have two of them made because the dopplegagner gig seems to be a big hit with people. And after all, with it being made by the same maker, they'll *definitely* look the same, which was something I'd been trying to do with my current suits.
2. I could commission an entirely new character. I've actually been thinking it's time for a change, since JD's been around for a while and he's kinda falling apart - I think it's time to retire JD. Being a Leo in western zodiac and a Tiger in the Chinese zodiac (fire both ways) and formerly the NYU Bobcat, I'm thinking I ought to pay more attention to my feline connections. Tigers seem to be starting a surge, I think, so I might want to hop on that train and have one for when they really get big!

So help me out, guys! I wanna hear your feedback, it'll be really helpful!

Bouncing all over! (Philly, LA, Boston, Detroit) [21 Mar 2010|02:42pm]
Hey everyone!

Still got plenty of stuff to catch up on, but here's a few quick vids of my ballroom antics - these from Binghamton's ballroom tournament earlier in February:

And more videos on my Youtube page!

Got a flurry of destinations coming up - Kodi, I don't know how you do it, flying all over the place! But it's bound to be a fun time! :)

Was just at a ballroom tourney in Philly this past weekend (still gotta work through the footage of that), and though all my usual partners were away for Spring Break, pretty much, I still came back with a few ribbons in my hand - and some free dance pants for winning an event I totally was just playing around for fun!

Now I'm prepping for a trip to Los Angeles for work, where I'll be from tonight through this Wednesday night, so if there's anyone who's from the LA area who'd like to hang out, I'm totally game! I'm located at the Westin on 4th St by the Harbor Freeway - I know that LA is a big place, so let me know if there's anything nearby that I should hit up!

After that, this coming weekend, I'll be doing another ballroom tournament up at the Harvard campus in Boston! So Bostonites, if you'd like to hang, shoot me a line as well! While I'll likely be busy during the day doing plenty of dancing, it would still be cool to hang out in the lunch and/or dinner times. Ping me and I'll let ya know what my schedule looks like!

Then I come back and play host for a few days as Reactiv Tiger and Tzup are coming into NYC to explore around! Gonna be an exciting week. If you're in NYC and wanna hang out in Manhattan with the crew, get in touch with either myself or Jimmy Wolf :)

And then just another week at work before packin' bags to go to Detroit for FCN! First time attending, and gettin' all the Sponsorship benefits I've been hearing about! Looking forward to attending - and looking forward to crossing paths with plenty of folks there!

And that's the upcoming forecast in a nutshell!

Cruise 2010! [19 Feb 2010|03:26pm]

The organizers are also using this poll to gauge interest in this kind of trip for this year. I went on it in December 2009 and had an absolute blast! Don't worry - I'll be putting the chronicles of that down eventually, as there's plenty of fantastic footage!

The bigger the group interested, the more perks that the group can get! So if you're thinking about going (which I highly advise), definitely leave your opinion on the poll and in the comments!

Happy New Year! Art Resolution! Ballroom Competition! [14 Jan 2010|08:56am]
Hey everyone! Been a while since I've posted - and lots to catch up on! A great FurFright, a fast MFF, an amazing cruise, and a quiet (has FIVE LETTERS!) holiday season. BUT I promise I'll write about that in a future post!

Two things:

1) Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had enjoyable holidays spent time with people who are important to you! And with the new year comes the resolutions as well! Mine is to get heavily back into art, and to help me out, I've taken on the 100 Sketch Challenge! Just see my journal post on my FA Page for more information. But the short of it is $10 digital sketches, 100 of 'em! Email me at jd.puppy on yahoo to get a slot! :)

2) JD's performing in another ballroom competition!

I never got around to posting from the last one last November, so I'll be able to put that up as well as this one, kind of as a before and after, as I've been training hard for a more challenging level - Open Latin! I'm looking forward to stepping onto the floor with confidence and to have enjoying the music, adrenaline, and dancing at the forefront of my mind for an A+ performance.

I have been training over the past several weeks for my next big dance tournament, the Manhattan Amateur Classic (http://www.nyusadance.org/mac/mac.shtml), held in the heart of NYC! Over the course of the weekend, I will be dancing in six multi-dance events, shared among three dance partners (talk about schedule packing!).

For those who are local in the city: The event will be held this year in the Manhattan Center, on 34th St and 8th Ave - just think of it, Dancing With the Stars quality entertainment is just a few blocks away! So if you'd like to attend, you can pre-order tickets online today or to buy tickets at the door (http://www.nyusadance.org/mac/mac.shtml?page=spectator). My dances tomorrow evening start sometime between 8 and 8:30, so if you would like to see me see what all my hard work has come to, feel free to stop by and cheer me on! I'll also have some events during the business day on Friday as well as during the morning on Saturday and Sunday.

====

Aside from that, work's been engulfing the remainder of my life, but the light is hopefully at the end of the tunnel! After FC, busy season at PwC will be coming to a close and I'll be rolling back onto a familiar quarterly report which I've always managed well... So hopefully I'll be more present all-around! Hope everyone's doing well!

October Recap! Germany, Anniversary, FurFright, Dancing! [01 Nov 2009|09:19pm]
Allrighty then! Lots has happened over the past couple weeks, so I'm gonna take a stab at writing a quick recap over some major events!

My trip to Germany was just like what many would expect a business trip to be - most of it just at the office or at the hotel. So I didn't get much time to enjoy Frankfurt, sadly. But at least I got to fly business class, which was pretty neat! And big thanks to BBF and Leowi for coming down all the way from Cologne and showing me a good time at the XXXXXL Eingang Waldgeist, where the servings here put American sized portions to shame! I got the schnitzel, but when I saw the burger get served to an adjacent table, I just *had* to take a picture. The three of us looked at it and equated the monster to 20 Big Macs.

An unfortunate part about the trip is that it ran over my 5-year anniversary with my partner Jimmy Wolf. But as soon as I'd gotten home from my long flight back, Jimmy had surprised me by hopping in costume holding a framed picture which he had commissioned by our good friend and talented artist Spunky. Funny thing is that I'd asked Spunky to draw up an anniversary gift for me to give to Jimmy as well! I'm sure she had quite the chuckle out of it - Jimmy Wolf tells more about it in his post. Here are the pictures we got each other!

The one that I got Jimmy:

The one that Jimmy got me - lol thanks love - I know I eat everything in sight ;)

However, what Jimmy didn't know was that the gift from Spunky was really a plan-b type of gift. My original gift idea was one I'd had for a while, since our first anniversary, actually. I'd had this little 5x7 sketchbook with about 25-ish pages in it, and I'd filled it in with sketches of memories throughout the years. My original intent was to have fully colored pictures on each of the pages, along with notes to tell a story with each picture. Though it was unfinished in my eyes, many encouraged me to give the gift anyway - and as everyone had told me would happen, Jimmy loved the gift when I gave it to him during our celebratory dinner. I hope to complete it, though - especially when things aren't in super-crunch mode with work and dance and such. Love you very much hun!

Tzup, Nbowa, and Harley visited just after this and just before FurFright - was a ton of fun being a host for you guys! I'm glad that you all had a lot of fun, and next time I hope to be able to be more present as a host to really show you all a good time! ^^

Furfright was a blast as always! Belic, K'gra and crew put on a great show once again, and I had a great time hanging out with everybody, both old and new friends! Sad to hear that the Red Bandits' winning streak is over - seems we had a case of the Yankees. An all-star team can't win every year ;) And though it's been sighted in other areas of the country for a couple years now, it seems that this was the first time that the doppleganger JD really hit the audiences well at FurFright! All in all, it was a very fun con, and I was glad to enjoy the vacation with plenty of great friends!

Tux (who sadly didn't get any floor time at FurFright) managed to get some mileage in the ballroom scene once again at a couple halloween dance parties here and there. Those that knew me were super excited to see the costume, and I got plenty of "OMG can I take a picture with you???" requests. Love it!

This girl was adorable!

Hopefully that catches things up pretty well! Until next time!

I'm going to Germany! [29 Sep 2009|10:53pm]
Hey! I'm about a month late for EF, but I'm going to Germany next week!

Was just approached by my manager to ask if I was interested and available to support a project in Germany next week, leaving *this* Saturday, returning the following Saturday. Talk about short notice!

Obviously I accepted the opportunity to travel out to those whereabouts on the company's dime. And while I'll be likely busy throughout the work week, I definitely want to get an opportunity to go places or to see people that are out there! How does that sound?

I may have missed out on Oktoberfest, but I hope to still be able to enjoy German sausages and beer as if it were!

Thinking about going to the furry cruise! [22 Aug 2009|12:14pm]

Saturday, December 5 - Thursday, December 10
6-day cruise in the Caribbean from Miami!

I've always been curious about this, and it seems like a lot of fun! Been wanting to go on a cruise too, and I definitely want to do it with some awesome people too!

Deposit deadline's coming up really soon, though - August 26 - so I have to act now if I want to get in on this. But I wanna know who else is going or might be interested in going so I know it'll be a good time! And I gotta make sure my passport's up to date too!

More details underneath the cut!Collapse )

Think I should go? Think YOU should go? Let me know if it'll be a good time! See the LJ community - http://community.livejournal.com/furrycruise/ - for more information!

What I did last weekend... [07 Jul 2009|08:20pm]
Wow! Looks like AC was a huge blast - tons of things I wish I could've been a part of and plenty of people I wish I could've seen. But my vacation plans took me south to Washington D.C. for Independence Day Ball, a Latin and ballroom dance camp/convention, so I was still kicking it up at a con!

My favorite part, by far, was the performance group that got together, learned and practiced choreography in less than 5 hours, to be performed Friday night at the social dance the camp was holding. I'm glad to say that I'm front and center and enjoyed milking the dark tone of the piece:

On top of that, there was plenty of panels (aka master workshops) from world-class professional dancers from around the world, and I learned a lot that'll hopefully improve my dancing for when I hop back into competition season this fall. And there were a TON of dance folks I haven't seen in a while, and enjoyed partying it up practically every night. So it was very much like a con experience, just a totally different circle.

Having said all that, those that spoke to me while I was down there know that I kept wishing I was having a blast with you all in Pittsburgh, but I'm sure if I was at AC, I would've spent a good portion of time wishing I was down at the ballroom con. Can't be in two places at once, unfortunately!

But speaking of cons, Megaplex is coming up, and I'm gonna be going as it falls on my birthday! Who will I see down in Florida in a few weekends? :)

P.S. I attended IDB last year and did the performance group back then as well. Here's a clip from that performance:

Not attending AC this year... [26 Jun 2009|05:56pm]
Just wasn't in the cards for me this year - the 4th of July generally isn't a good time for me - (I had something slotted in *even before* AC announced their dates last year). After weighing the options, I've gotta go with my original plans. I just wish I could do all the things I had wanted to do for next week!

Have fun at AC, everybody - I'll miss you all! Be extra bouncy for me!

Decision's in! And now another question... [09 Apr 2009|04:39pm]
It's decided - I'm goin' to Elliot's Spring Gathering! Got my flight, hotel, and registration all set! I'm super-psyched for some fun Go-Kart and Waterpark action!

Now for another question...

Who's going to this in Decmeber this year? I'd been curious about this ever since its inception, but was never a good time due to school and other commitments. Now this year it finally looks like a possibility!

For those who have gone, what did you like/not like about it? Is it worth the money? What can I expect? Are you comin' back? Let me in on the scoop!

Elliot's Spring Gathering - Who's Goin'? [25 Mar 2009|08:26pm]

Just booked my room for Elliot's Spring Gathering, which is happening May 29-31 in sunny Kissimee, Florida! Go-Karting (in fursuit please? :D), awesome food, and private waterpark craziness? I think it's a winning combination, don't you? =)

Who's going? =D
